Festive December in Ljubljana

Magical festive lighting, the smell of cooked wine, smiling faces and sparkles of expectation in the eyes of the youngest,… All this is December in Ljubljana. There are market stalls selling souvenirs on the banks of the River Ljubljanica and on major squares. And there are performance venues where something interesting is always happening. 

The festive December in Ljubljana begins at the end of November or at the beggining of December and it is open until January. This year Festive December in Ljubljana will be open until 5 January. If you’re currently in Ljubljana or anywhere else in Slovenia, you can still go and have some fun. But if you are already too late (I guess that you are, since I’m late with article), you can plan it for the next year.

Advent season in Ljubljana

During the advent season, a lot is going on in Ljubljana. The city is known for having one of the most original lights displays and its vibrant Christmas markets. Set up in the historical city centre are accompanied by free open-air events. 

In the Advent season, Ljubljana’s Christmas lights make the city’s romantic beauty and charm really stand out. Ljubljana Castle turns into a fairytale-like setting and the old town’s public squares, churches, bridges and creations by the famous architect Jože Plečnik come to shine in a whole new light.

Regardless of whether you are looking for a nice present for your loved ones, souvenirs or warm clothing for cold days, you will find the right thing. You can find interesting products by young designers that you can often not even find in the shops. Or you can take home a piece of Slovenian tradition by choosing one of the local artisan and craft products or a Slovenian delicacy, such as honey, brandy, and desserts.

Celebrate life

In Ljubljana, December is considered to be a festive month and despite the cold, the city’s streets are vibrant throughout the month. All the music concerts and other events are held in public spaces for free. You can always warm yourself up with a cup of mulled wine, tea or hot chocolate at the nearest Christmas stall. The big event in Ljubljana is also New Year’s Eve celebration.

The Land of Ice will add real magic to the Christmas spirit in the city. It is perfect choice for all generations and everyone will enjoy in the ice sculptures. Since the Land of Ice is in a covered facility, you can visit it anytime. It spreads over 200m2 and the room has a constant temperature of -4 degrees Celsius. If you don’t want to freeze, don’t forget to bring warm clothes .
